Sounds like the beginning of a joke, right? Well, I guess it is in a way, but this is a true story.
My father recently purchased a BRP Can-Am Spyder Roadster. He told me an unbelievable story last night. The bike has a large video display for speedometer, tachometer, fuel, etc. Apparently, every time you go to start the bike, that screen is first populated with the terms and conditions of the motorcycle. You heard me right. I haven’t read it myself, but I’m sure it follows a standard party line ‘riding motorcycles is a dangerous pursuit, you agree not to hold Bombadier responsible for any accident’ yadda yadda. You must agree to these terms and conditions before you can start the bike. As you can imagine, this is incredibly frustrating. Well, it gets better. That portion of the instrumentation has now broken. My father cannot accept the terms of conditions, so he can’t start the bike. There is nothing wrong with the bike mechanically, but it is now a giant paperweight. The nearest dealer to fix it is in Florida, some 10 hours away. If you are looking at one of these bikes, I’d tread carefully.
UPDATE: big props to Brian who posted “try the “M” button located on the back of the left handlebar”. I just spoke with my father and this failsafe worked. Many thanks!

1Your father has two options to bypass the message – one is the “M” button on the display, the other is an “M” button located on the back of the left handlebar (behind the blinker control). Check to see if both of those are non-functional before driving the 10 hours to service…
