I remember the first time I saw a Triumph Bonneville and thought to myself “I am going to own one of those some day”. There is just something about the styling of the bike that is irresistable. Triumph re-introduced the model in 2001 with the same classic styling, but with an updated motor and electronics. It has a 790 cc parallel-twin motor the same configuration as the original “Bonnie”:

I purchased mine in the Spring of 2002 and have logged about 15,000 miles. This bike is medium sized, weighs around 450 lbs and has a very forgiving clutch- a fun bike that’s easy to ride. Although it’s suited to short trips. I’ve ridden it to New Hampshire from New York on multiple occasions and I have never had a single problem with the bike. The new design is rock solid. I haven’t done much in the way of modifications, but would definitely recommend to any owner that they change the pipes. I went with the factory off-road silencers which add about 10 horsepower and have a nice throaty growl.
I have a number of bikes, but “The Queen” (as she is known) is always the crowd favorite. There is just something about a Bonnie that you can’t shake…

1Hello.
Very nice little piece you’ve written about “The Queen”. I own a 2001 Bonnie myself. But the red and silver coloured. Just curious since you own several bikes: How is she to ride compared to the others, maybe more modern, bikes? I’ve had a bit of problem with mine. Oil coming up from the crankshaft ventilation into the airbox. Thats fixed. But I still find it a bit lame, though I’ve changed the exhaustpipes to the off road ones. But for me it was 22 years since I road a motorcycle before I bought this one May last year. Still, it’s a beautiful bike which often gets commented just for that reason. Some older men ask me if I’ve removed the kick-starter… They really think it’s a sixties bike.
Greetings from Sweden.
