The Dukes of Flatbush have announced their bid to race the 41st annual Baja 1000 in Baja, Mexico over November 19 - 22, 2008. To give you an idea about the race, the 2007 course was 1,296.4 miles long and had a time limit of 53 hours. The Dukes of Flatbush team will consist of 4 riders using one motorcycle, swapping off at predetermined points. There are approximately 22 pit stops that occur in the middle of the desert to allow all of this to happen. It’s a logisitical nightmare, but perhaps worse, the race is described by contestants as a ‘24 hour car crash’.
Preparations have begun in earnest even though the race is 11 months away. Graham has arranged a trip to ride all of Baja from March 25-31 with Chris Haines so he can do recon for the team. Two race-prepped Honda CRF450x motorcycles will be acquired in the Spring to kick off training efforts. Keep checking DOFB.com for updates as we prepare for the mother of all races.

1Hey guys, good to see you are going to drink the Baja Cool-aid. Be carefull, it’s addicting! I describe the Baja 1000 to people as: “You spend 8 hours trying to get off the bike and the whole next year trying to get back on it!”
Anyway, I am a Baja racer who just moved to NY. I am undecided on whether I am going this year, but I might. Even If I don’t, I would be happy to help you guys plan or offer any advice on the trip.
I saw you were goin to meet with Chris Haines, great choice. He helped me in 2006. I prepped my bike at his shop with his help. You can see it on his website, actually. It is the only pink XR650 (We rode for breast cancer in 2006). They are great people.
ANyway, good luck and email me back if you have the chance.
